Branding
In today's highly competitive market, branding has become more important than ever for businesses seeking to establish a lasting presence and connect with their target audience.
A strong and purposeful brand identity can differentiate your business from the competition, build trust with customers, and shape their perception of your products or services. It goes beyond just a logo and color scheme; branding encompasses the entire experience and emotions associated with your business.
With effective branding, you can create a strong foundation, increase customer loyalty, and position your business for long-term success. It’s no joke!
It’s that important to get the branding right …from the start!
In case you missed it if you are skimming…
this is because it builds trust!
Differentiation: Branding helps distinguish your business from competitors by showcasing your unique value proposition, core values, and personality. It helps consumers understand why your business is the best choice among countless options.
Trust and credibility: A strong brand instills confidence and credibility in the minds of customers. It represents reliability, quality, and consistency, reinforcing trust and encouraging repeat business.
Emotional connection: By shaping the perception of your business, effective branding engages customers emotionally. When customers resonate with your brand's story, purpose, and values, they are more likely to establish a deeper connection and become loyal advocates.
Recognition and recall: Creating a cohesive visual identity, including a memorable logo, consistent colors, and a distinctive brand voice, helps customers recognize and recall your brand more easily. This leads to increased brand awareness and higher chances of being considered in buying decisions.
Enhanced marketing efforts: A strong brand provides a solid foundation for marketing efforts. It enables you to convey a consistent and compelling message across various channels, making your marketing campaigns more impactful and memorable.
Internal alignment: Branding not only resonates with external audiences; it also plays a vital role internally by aligning employees around a shared mission and vision. A cohesive brand culture fosters a sense of belonging and commitment among team members, leading to a more united and motivated workforce.
My Quick Tips for DIY Branding
#1: Stop looking at so many places. if you have been Pinteresting, Googling, coolersing, and all the ing’s, you are probably overloaded.
Instead of just looking at colors, instead, think about 1. you and 2. your ideal client.
#2: Narrow your choices down to just a few. A few colors/fonts/inspiration pics.
#3: Create your moodboard. Simply go to canva and type moodboard in the search feature and use any that you like.
#4: Add the colors and fonts to your website and a few pics just for testing purposes.
#5: Does this resonate with your brand vibe? does this give your ideal client the message that resonates with them and not you?
ok, now let’s get into each of those 5 items.
You will of course, need Canva. I feel like I don’t even need to tell anyone anymore about Canva because they are just the most popular tool but here is their site and they have a free plan.
But please upgrade to paid, this is an essential business expense IMO.
Ok….
Step 1: Like I said, just stop the search, stop it in its tracks.
Go to my collection of Pinterest boards.
Pick your top 3 and only 3.
Take a screenshot and save it in your branding workbook.
Step 2: Now, go to Canva. open up this branding board.
Use the color picker tool to pick the colors and replace the ones on the branding board.
Step 3: Next, add your fonts. Again, look at these boards for font inspiration.
you will need 2 fonts.
Pro Tip:
☕️ Yes, only use 2 fonts in your entire website.
If you want you can add a 3rd as another accent font like a script font…but use it super sparingly.
More about your Fonts for Branding
Your font for headings. this can be more playful and fun. A beautiful serif font - but not a script font.
Test it in bold, regular, and italics.
then is your main font which serves as the body font of your paragraphs and subheadings. think about readability on this one. You want people to be able to read it clearly and quickly.
There are just a handful of these you should be looking at ….for readability.
Poppins, Montserrat, Raleway are a few of the popular ones.
Don’t overthink it.
Pair the two together and move on to step 4. you can always change the font.
Step 4: Now the fun part, add in the images that reflect the brand colors and vibe.
What images, where? First you can just search in canva for photos and elements. but AI is changing this game so if you want to learn how to make your own, then start learning about Midjourney and craft your own.
Step 5: Open up logos. Grab example logos from canva.
Step 6: This is your moodboard and this serves as your ambassador to your brand.
Step 7: Now test this out on your website platform. Load your colors/fonts/logo. See how it resonates with you and deeply think about how your ideal client will think about it.
Ask a few friends to see what they think. if you need more than one variation of colors or fonts, try several and ask some friends or colleagues what they think. Survey any current clients or ideal clients. Join FB groups and ask for opinions.
If you know it can still be better and it’s just not hitting that place in your heart that hits the epic spot… then just commit to hire a professional web designer to work on it.
